About Loans Ottawa

Loans Ottawa is a free loan connection service written for people who work in Ottawa and the towns around it, from Vanier to Kanata and out along the 417 to Arnprior. It sets out payday and installment loans under Ontario law: the $14 per $100 cap, the single repayment date and the two business day cancellation right. We do not lend, and you never pay us.

What this site is

Loans Ottawa is a plain language guide to the two kinds of loan an Ottawa borrower is most often offered online, with a single apply link that reaches lenders licensed in Ontario. A payday loan is $100 to $1500 at no more than $14 per $100, due in one debit on your next pay date and never more than 62 days out. An installment loan is $500 to $10000 at 18% to 35% APR, paid monthly over 3 to 60 months.

Which one fits usually follows the pay calendar. A hydro bill after a cold snap, due a week before the Wednesday deposit, is a one paycheque gap. A furnace in a 1960s Gloucester bungalow, or the stretch between a term contract ending on March 31 and the next letter of offer, outlasts a pay period and belongs on the installment page.

How we earn money

The only money that reaches this site is a referral fee from a lender, paid after a loan made through our apply link has funded. You never pay it, and it adds nothing to the $14 per $100 or the APR the law already caps. Nothing is owed on a declined application or on a loan cancelled within Ontario's two business days.

That arrangement pulls us toward applications lenders accept rather than toward the biggest figure on the page. The referral disclosure states it in full.

About Loans Ottawa, Ottawa

Who runs it

Loans Ottawa belongs to an independent Canadian publisher that runs a small number of local loan guides. The pages are written and checked by the Loans Ottawa Editorial Team; none of us lends, brokers or advises, and no lender has a say in what goes on a page. The facts come from the Payday Loans Act, 2008, from Consumer Protection Ontario and from the federal Criminal Interest Rate Regulations. There are no reviews or testimonials here.

What we hold ourselves to

Every page is read against this list before it goes up.

  • Figures follow the law as it stands: $14 per $100 as the most a payday loan can cost, $1500 and 62 days as the Ontario limits, 50% of net pay as the most a lender can advance, and 35% as the federal ceiling on installment lending.
  • Repayment is described the Ontario way: one debit on your next pay date, with the extended plan a lender owes on a third loan as the only exception.
  • Approval rests on employment income and is never promised; a lender cannot say yes before it has read your deposits.
  • Ontario protections are stated as the Act writes them: a licence for the lender and for each location, online lenders included; cancellation within two business days at no cost; no rollovers and no second loan while one is open; an extended payment plan at no extra cost on the third loan within 63 days; and an age of majority of 18.
  • Ottawa is described as it is: a federal pay run every second Wednesday that has gone wrong for weeks at a time, Kanata North contracts that end with a funding round, and heating bills that peak from January to March.
  • Every rule stated links to the statute or the regulator so you can check us.
About Loans Ottawa, Ottawa

What we are not

Loans Ottawa is not a lender, and it holds no licence under the Payday Loans Act because it never lends; a licence attaches to the lender and to each location it lends from. Nothing on this site asks for a bank login, a pay stub or identification; those go to the lending platform behind the apply button, where each lender holds its own Ontario licence. Consumer Protection Ontario publishes what a licensed lender owes you and takes the complaint when one falls short.

We keep no office on Bank Street or anywhere else. The whole process runs on a phone, on Line 1 between Blair and Tunney's Pasture, in a break room on Smyth Road or at a kitchen table in Barrhaven. The contact page explains how to write to us, how applying works covers the four steps, and the FAQ takes the rest.

One page per product: who qualifies, how fast it funds and what to check before you sign.

How Loans Ottawa makes money: loansottawa.ca is a free loan connection service, not a lender. When you apply, we match your application with licensed Canadian lenders and earn a referral fee from the lender if your loan funds. This never changes your rate or costs you anything. We do not make credit decisions and never charge borrowers. The lender sets and discloses the cost before you sign; payday fees are capped by provincial law and installment loans run 18% to 35% APR. All lending is subject to lender approval and provincial rules.
