Accessibility for Loans Ottawa

Loans Ottawa should read the same for everyone: on a screen reader, by keyboard alone, zoomed on a phone on a Line 2 train to South Keys, or one handed in a mitt at a bus stop on Bank Street in January. This page explains how the pages are built and how to tell us where one falls short.

How the pages are built

Each page is plain HTML with headings in order, real tables for tabular content, alt text on every photograph, link text that says where it goes, and no script that has to run before the words appear. Text is text, not a picture of text, so it scales with your zoom and wraps on a narrow screen. There are no popups, no motion, no autoplaying media and no third party widgets.

Colour, contrast and text size

Text and background colours meet the AA contrast ratio, and no meaning is carried by colour alone. Headings, links and the apply button resize with your browser settings, and the layout holds at 200% zoom. If you use a high contrast mode, the pages follow it.

Keyboard and assistive technology

Every link and the apply button can be reached with the Tab key, focus is visible on each one, and a skip link at the top of every page jumps past the menu to the article. The menu, the page map and the tables are standard HTML that screen readers already handle. Alt text describes what a photo shows, the canal under snow or Parliament Hill from the river, instead of repeating the heading.

The Ontario standard

Ontario's accessibility statute, the AODA, sets the standard these pages aim to follow, and its web rules point to WCAG 2.0 level AA. We do not claim certification or full conformance; we test the pages with a keyboard and a screen reader and fix what we find.

The application platform

The application runs on a separate platform; if it does not work with your assistive technology, its support contact is on the form and in your confirmation. The how it works page walks through each step in plain text, including the read-only bank verification.

Report a barrier

If a page fails with your screen reader, keyboard, zoom setting or contrast mode, email with the page address and what happened. Accessibility reports are read first and answered within a few business days, and the fix goes live as soon as it is tested. The contact page lists what else we can and cannot help with.

How Loans Ottawa makes money: loansottawa.ca is a free loan connection service, not a lender. When you apply, we match your application with licensed Canadian lenders and earn a referral fee from the lender if your loan funds. This never changes your rate or costs you anything. We do not make credit decisions and never charge borrowers. The lender sets and discloses the cost before you sign; payday fees are capped by provincial law and installment loans run 18% to 35% APR. All lending is subject to lender approval and provincial rules.
